Remember the story we did about the 4,000 stolen iPhones from a Belgium Company a few weeks back? The police lost track of the thieves and the devices were never found. Well reports are coming in that some of those iPhones are being activated in ol’ Mother Russia.
They were most likely sold to local distributers, possibly knowing or not knowing that these were stolen devices. However, customers will be in for a big surprise. Apple and Interpol are in possession of all serial numbers of the stolen iPhones and any attempt to log onto Apple’s servers will send information to those companies. The iPhones can then be blocked via the networks they are on, rendering them into paper weights.
No clear word just yet on if Apple or Interpol will use this as a means to retrieve the stolen goods.
