Apple VS Fujitsu over iPad name

Some more compelling news that the Apple tablet is in fact a real thing, Apple is currently in a legal battle with Japanese company Fujitsu over the iPad name. Supposedly Fujitsu trademarked the name, and now Apple is going after them, even though it appears Fujitsu was the first one to trademark the title.

Apple moved to oppose the trademark back in Sept. 2009. Why does Apple feel it has any legal angle to claim rights to a name that someone else already has?

Well you could look at it this way, if Fujitsu started making shoes and called them Nyke, Ribock, Ahdiddas etc… , shouldn’t the respective companies be allowed to pursue legal action if consumers were to be reasonably confused by the obvious rip off names? Or should it be an open free for all for companies to try and cash in on naming their products with very similar names of successful titles of other products?

The “i” prefix for Apples products is a very identifiable part of Apple and pretty much is almost synonymous with Apple as the Apple logo is itself. Even if Apple has not trademarked exclusive rights to the “i” prefix, it still should hold some sort of legal protection from people trying to label their non Apple products with the same prefix to entice sales, presuming that the customer may think it’s an official Apple product.

How then, do you rationalize the HP trademarked iPaq, which predates all of the Apple iCrap?
