ipsw Apple Seeds 2.1 Beta #2 to Developers

Only one week after seeding the first Beta of the upcoming Firmware 2.1, Apple has released the newest Beta to users for development and testing purposes. This new beta includes the implementation of the Apple Push Notification API, which essentially solves the problem of no background processes being allowed on the iPhone by Apple. In a message Apple stated this:

“This is the second beta of the iPhone SDK targeting iPhone OS 2.1, including bug fixes to iPhone OS as well as an early implementation of the Apple Push Notification Service API. This API is not yet integrated with a live push server.”

The Push Notification Server is not active yet, but the inclusion of the API allows developers to further develop their product in before it is slated to be released this September.

I’m pretty excited for the inclusion of push notification, as it will make applications like Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, AIM, and any other message based application infinitely more useful then they are now.
