AT&T still trying to convince us No Data Tiers

AT&T Mobility President Ralph De la Vega told BusinessWeek: “I guess I should have been more clear.” Vega is refering to rumors of AT&T implementing a data usage tier package program, which would do away with the current unlimited data plans.

This is the second time in one week, De la Vega has tried to deflect the rumors, concerning a report quoting the AT&T exec mentioning incentives for iPhone owners to “reduce or modify their data usage.” AT&T claim that iPhone users – use about 40% of their network capacity.

AT&T is looking to Wi-Fi as an alternative to flooding their 3G network with iPhone web surfers. They are reaching out to popular spots like McDonald’s, Barnes & Noble and Starbucks for free wi-fi support – and to lighten the load that the carrier takes in hits from iPhone users.
