I have recently reviewed rates around town for a two year contract with AT&T in Southern California. I can’t imagine that prices vary more than $10 so here it goes. Now for the iPhone the data plan is required of course, which already sets us back $30 a month. Now where you can actually control pricing is the minutes and texting. You can either get a single plan for yourself or you can be smart and talk some family into saving money and going in on a family plan with you. The pricing difference is a big one, especially if you do 3 people dividing the bill. So for my plan I started with a:
1400 minutes for $89.99
+ 9.99 to add a 3rd line
Total so far: $99.99 + your $29.99 data plan.
Divide that $99.99 among three and you are only paying:
$33.33 each for 460.7 minutes each.
Now with free weekends, Mobile to Mobile and even ROLLOVER minutes, this plan is perfect for most casual cell phone users.
Of course for your data plan of $29.99 for your fancy iPhone, you pay a little more. Remember what you are getting though, 3G INTERNET everywhere.
Your Total is: $63.32
This does not include texting. If you are like most Americans today (such as myself) you may also be a text addict. To add unlimited text for the whole family it is $29.99.
That is another $10 per member. Not to shaby.
Families unlimited text total: $44.32
Your unlimited text total: $74.32
I say this is not bad for a plan with an iPhone! If you were to get this plan by yourself your looking to pay about $109.99
Also another note. DO NOT GET YOUR PLAN AT AT&T unless you’re all getting iPhone’s. The cell phones sold at AT&T are over-priced and I found some excellent deals at BestBuy. Shop around for family if they are not getting iPhone with you. Even small 3rd party boutiques have great deals on phones. The family could most likely find a smart phone for free with the two year contract.
Leave me comments, let me know what pricing is like in your state.
