The iPhone firmware 2.2 beta that was released to developers has already been jailbroken by the iPhone Dev team. In the latest pre-emptive strike against Apple’s hold on proprietary software, the Dev team has provided users what should be a very smooth transition for those who jailbreak their iPhones to run third party apps. On the last firmware update, the team was able to jailbreak the phone in about 24 hours after release. They are currently still working on the unlock for the iPhone 3G however. Of course nothing is final and the firmware is still just a beta which means it is subject to change before the final release.
