App News, Apple News

Are you always looking at PDF files on the go for work but don’t want to have to charge up your laptop to do so? Well now there’s an app for that, and it’s called GoodReader. GoodReader is a file viewer app that supports PDF files, PDF Reflow, PDF & TXT text search and more. It can be used as a downloading manager that allows you to download files from the internet by inputing their URLs or by just browsing the files within the iPhone browser. The GoodReader app also allows you yo access MobileMe iDisk, MyDisk.se, Google Docs, box.net and Dropbox servers as well. That’s not all though, you are also able to transfer files from your desktop to your iPhone via WiFi.

There are other file reader apps out there, what makes Good Reader different however is its ability to read every file that Safari reads from Office files, PDFs, iWork and .jpg’s. What really makes this app stand out is its ability to read very large files, larger than 200Mb. Most other apps can’t read files more than 50Mb, which is only a quarter of what GoodReader is capable of.

The app is simple to use and it’s UI is very straightforward. The app makes a WebDAV server that virtually any computer can connect to, the app also gives you the IP needed to connect your iPhone to your PC or Mac. I used the app to open all sorts of files in various sizes, and it accomplished everything I threw at it with ease. It did seem a bit slow at times, but then again I was opening a 180Mb .PDF file.

Overall: 4/5
GoodReader did its intended purpose quite well, if you need to read a 100Mb or more .PDF on your iPhone then this app will be quite useful for you. Because of the somewhat slow speed I experienced with the app it may be overkill for smaller files. With that said I was able to open all sorts of files in various sizes from PDFs to TXT files, and it displayed the files perfectly for the iPhone making them much easier to read on the small iPhone screen. If you need to read these types of files quite often, especially large files, then this app may be worth taking a look at. It’s available in the App Store now for just $.99.
