Apple and Nintendo aren’t competitors— well so claims Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo. In his interview recently with the Wall Street Journal, Iwata says that the Nintendo and Apple companies cater to 2 very different markets.

Thus any direct comparisons make him “uncomfortable.”Despite his comments, though, the two are not only in direct competition, but the iPhone OS devices may be the future of the portable gaming market.

While there have been cell phones with games for many years, but there has never been until recently a device that can bring mobile communication and the level of gaming competition as successfully as the iPhone/iPod Touch.

If you throw in Nintendo’s quickly aging properties, it’s hard to see how the two companies aren’t in competition.
