If it were not already apparent the main feature of the new iPhone 3GS is the Speed, which makes sense why Apple would call it the iPhone 3G “S”. So that will be where we will start.
SPEED
Thanks to Engadget for the video on loading time of Resident Evil Degeneration. From even the startup of the phone I see a huge difference on loading time on the iPhone 3GS cutting the startup time in less than half of the 3g starting time. Of course all transitions show slight increases that would not be noticed unless they were side by side with the 3g. Also a big plus for me is I am yet to have a crash (knock on wood). I don’t know if you have the same issue where your deep in to Sims 3 or any other premium game and all of a sudden your booted to the springboard?? This was a low resources problem which I believe has been fixed due to the Ram being doubled to 256MB. That mixed with the new processor has really made this a winner to me. On to Photos
Photos
As you can see in the image, the new 3.0 camera is a big step up. The competitive new hardware mixed with a new “click object to focus” software makes the picture taking much more useful. Sure the time to throw away your consumer digital camera is not here yet but this new iPhone will help capture those moments when your without.
Video
This was taken with the new video recorder, and as you see again it is not going to replace your HD Camcorder but it does come in handy when you are out and you want to catch that random silly moment. Video recording at 30 Frames per second is an impressive feature wouldn’t you say?
Voice Command
Sure 3rd party apps have used this feature in the past but its so much better when the original hardware designers do it (Apple). I really enjoy the music searching abilities since my ridiculous new 32 GB is quite time consuming to navigate through. I may be a bit embarassed to call on some artist in the sauna or insert your silent awkward moment in the day. Some may love this feature like myself, some may not care or need to use.
MagnoMeter
Aka the Magnometer. This thing really helps me because I am HORRIBLE with directions. Always traveling around and I don’t ever know the neighborhod so I have no idea which direction Im going. As you see in the video. The new compass in the iPhone 3GS is very helpful in google maps and will be popping up in new innovative apps I imagine.
Other features
Bluetooth in car, Landscape texting, Copy/Paste and longer battery life is some more points that can be made to justify the purchase of a new iPhone 3GS. I personally do not choose to use bluetooth because of quality loss, which I recommend using a iPhone 3GS Dock to Auxilary cable . Landscaping is not new if you have been jailbreaking in the past [tssk, tssk]. It is really more clean again when Apple makes the feature. The Copy Paste is a long overdue feature that is quite clean especially when compared with its Jailbreak app versions [so I heard]. One of the better features that really impressed me is the extensive battery life. Before I was very conservative with my internet use because of battery life. Now with the 3GS I surf throughout the day freely most of the day without having to recharge.
Conclusion
I have been hearing when people see the new iPhone 3GS features in commercials, or when your read about it on a blog like this you dont think it is “worth” its cost… Really the problem to me seems that people see the iPhone 3GS in its predecessor EXACT casing and it just improving on some old features for the most part. People are impressed with “new” Technology and it’s a fair assumption that the 3GS is nothing new. But it is these improvements that are going to make your life and the iPhone experience that much better. Faster websurfing, app using, picture taking, Video recording, compass pointing, landscape using copy and pasting, battery-life monster. Thats the word(s) I would use to sum up the new iPhone 3GS. So the purchase?
Worth it.
