Apple News

Apples iPhone is a HUGE success in Japan and is now claiming 46.1% of the land of the rising suns smartphone market, dethroning the previous smartphone king in Japan in under 6 months. Sharp’s W-ZERO3, with its three-inch screen and slide out QWERTY keyboard, was the previously leading smartphone in Japan.

This newfound love for the iPhone in Japan, has skyrocketed Apples iDevice sales – with the iPhone 3G model grabbing 24.6% and the iPhone 3GS grabbing 21.5%, making the 3G and 3GS the number 1 and number 2 phone in the country. In Japan the iPhone’s service comes from a company called Softbank – and already Japanese cosumers are loving the service and claim they can’t remember if they’ve ever experienced a dropped call, that must be a great feeling.

These are very impressive numbers for the iPhone – given that sales over in China started off with a bad limp, however they are slowly improving even with their outrageous 1,000 dollar plus prices in China.

The new year will be pretty interesting to see how smartphone sales pan out with the Google Nexus One phone on the way, and the ever increasingly popular Motorola Android phone quickly gaining more and more followers and gaining an increasing app store.

Sorry to frustrate you but the iPhone has a minor success in Japan. Totally market share is only 2%. Smartphones are not very popular here cause all regular phones have the highest technology and software. Iphone lack a lot of standard features of regular phones in Japan (RFID, TV tuner and recorder, flash support, carrier menu, battery life etc.) Sure latly Softbank is spending a lot on marketing and you can see some iPhones in Tokyo. Many Japanese still have a “real phone” next to their iPhone…
