Apple has dominated the smart phone market with their iPhone 3G since it was released just last summer, well new data from Gartner has shown that Apple’s global share of the smartphone market has more than doubled year-over-year during the first quarter of the year. It went up from 5.3 percent to 10.8 percent with unit sales going from 1.7 million to 3.9 million. Nokia still leads the smartphone market even with their slight drop in market share, BlackBerry did a bit better with their market share rising from 13.3 percent to 19.9 percent. The total number of mobile phones sold in the world totaled 269.1 million units in Q1 of 2009 which was a 9.4 pecent decrease with smartphones sales seeing a 12.7 percent increase at 36.4 million units. Good job Apple.
