So we have been noticing a lot of criticism over the web on the new 3rd Gen iPod Shuffle. There is no need for such a small device you say? It has no buttons on it, its horrible!! Well if you did not know the Shuffle 2nd gen was quite successful in sales. Does this mean the 3rd gen. will not be able to fill the same shoes? Lets start.
Functionality:
2nd Generation iPod Shuffle:
High Quality Anodized aluminum casing.
Handy clip.
Easy to use controls ON player.
3rd Generation iPod Shuffle:
High Quality Anodized aluminum casing also.
Larger, sturdier clip for better “clipping”.
Higher-end Proprietary ear-buds with full control of player.
Voice-Over feature for music info.
Smaller than original.
Specifications:
Below is a simple spec comparison of all 3 iPod Shuffles. I know I said iPod Shuffle 2nd gen vs iPod Shuffle 3rd gen but the third was thrown in last minute out of pure interest.
| Generation | Capacity | Color(s) | Connection | Battery life |
| 1st Generation Shuffle | 512 MB/ 1 GB |
White | USB | 12 hrs |
| 2nd Generation Shuffle | 1 GB/ 2 GB | Silver / Green / Blue / Pink / Orange |
USB 2.0 | 12 hrs |
| 3rd Generation Shuffle | 4 GB | Silver / Black | USB 2.0 | 10 hrs |
iPod Shuffle Conclusion:
In my opinion the problem for many is the earphone controls. It sounds ridiculous at first I know, but what I have learned from innovations in the past is that the weird ones are sometimes the best. The iPhone with NO KEYBOARD?? It sounded like insanity at first but if we look at the market now, we are starting to adopt it. We are seeing more and more touch screens everywhere. The 3rd gen. is still taking some time to get use to but its great for its targeted audience: Physical activity enthusiast. $79.99 for a 4GB MP3 player that small is not bad.
