There was a report today from the NPD Group, the world’s leading market researching company, that depicts Apple‘s retail sales for the month of November 2008. It shows that the sales figures for the month of November have flattened over the past year. Analysts believe that this could be attributed to the declining economy and the fact that Mac desktops are still pretty expensive. The sales figures report shows that Mac desktop sales dipped 38 percent, compared to Windows desktops sales the decreased only 15 percent. Mac laptops, on the other hand, saw an increase in overall sales. With that being said, many analysts said that Mac desktop computers (iMac, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro) are in desperate need of an update.

In a separate report, an Apple employee leaked out information that suggest that an upgraded Mac Mini is to be expected at the MacWorld Expo (January 5-9, 2009). No other details were given about the announcement. The Mac Mini has been long overdue for an upgrade. The last time the Mac Mini saw an upgrade was about 16 months ago. There is no word on whether we will see an upgraded version of the iMac or the Mac Pro. We really do not expect the upgraded Mac Mini to be the highlight of Steve Job’s keynote address. But we really do not know as Apple likes to keep things under wraps. Please stay tuned as more information comes our way.
