A number of Apple iPhone patents have been leaked online recently, a new one from Apple shows they might implement a security feature that will allow the iPhone to call the authorities when it is stolen. The patent application shows the system where the user can set thresholds of vibration and acceleration and if the preset threshold is made the iPhone will be locked from unauthorized users. I would imagine the thresehold settings would be if someone snatched it from you for example. The iPhone would also send authorities GPS coordinates to the location of the iPhone. I’m sure there are a lot of kinks that need to be worked out, and I don’t think a preset vibration setting is the best way to do this. How about a system where you text the phone a certain code (which doesn’t pop up on the iPhone alerting the theives) which activated the anti-theft system? Seems like an easier way of doing it.
