SquareTrade recently released a study on the failure rate of cellphones. The research group tracked 15,000 phones over the handsets first year of use and found some interesting results. The iPhone had a malfunction rate of 5.6% while various BlackBerry models had a rate of 11.9% but the Palm Treo had a rate of 16.2%. None of these numbers are stellar, I hope these results will cause these manufacturers to design and build even more reliable smart phones. These phones cost from $200 well into the $500 range so we as consumers should have a phone that works almost 100% of the time.
