Hackulous Tutorial: How to get Free iPhone Apps

If you want to get free apps for the iPhone or iPod Touch, you must first have your iPhone or iPod Touch jailbroken. After that, simply get on Cydia and add the Hackulous repository;
Cydia -> Manage -> Sources -> Edit -> Add
Enter the link “http://cydia.hackulo.us” like the picture below.
After adding the source for the Hackulous repository to cydia, the next step is to download the Installous app for the iPhone or iPod Touch. The Installous app will be your source for apps.
Cydia -> manage -> Packages
From there whether you want to perform a search function or just scroll down and find it, you will have to install the Installous app. The Installous app will be like an alternative to the iPhone app store.
Once the Installous app is on your springboard, you can use it to find the many apps that are available for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The app will often redirect you to hosting sites via the browser but from there just simply select a mirror and you should be able to enjoy the apps free. Also, if you want to support us so we can put up more tutorials in the future. We are aware that our posts are rather old but stay tuned because we are back up now! I followed everything above, installs apps just like in your vid BUT when I Spring Bpard back there is nothing on my screen for the installed apps. If I chk Installous -> Downloads its shows teh apps installed…what’s the deal?

when you download installous you have to download a app from the app store (free or paid) then you can download everything

My question is, in any event (screen timeout, device lock, etc.), will it continue where it left off? Thanks! Once you download it, you must go to the download section. There you will see all ur downloaded apps and then you must install it. It will install it and you’ll be happy with your brand new app.
well as i have just found ou mipatch actually crashed myiphone 3gs & i had to restore – if you have 3gs do not install mipatch – install appsynch for 0s 3.0 be warned i had to do 2 restores efore i found this info

trust me just reinstall it that’s what i did go to manage -> packages go to installous (if it’s there) -> modify (top right) then reinstall then confirm.

When you sync with the new Itunes 9 it will delete the installed app you just have to go back and reinstall it

What’s odd is that appulo.us is up, but it cannot be browsed from within the installous app (white screen). Hackulo.us also appears to be down. Something odd is going on here, at least I still have the installulous app for manual installs…

If it wont show up on spring board, you must install a lite app from the appstore. then reinstall the hacked apps and theyll appear.

guys i know im way too late but you have to have an app installed from the appstore. it could be a free or a paid app. after you installed the free or paid app from the appstore go back to installous and install the app you want.. you should see it on your springboard now.

If developers had refunds or trial periods w. full features, folks wouldn’t have to to JB phones to see if the apps are worth the $$.
Developers and users need to petition Apple to allow refunds, or at least trial periods (15-30 day) of apps. “Lite” versions don’t cut it for the better apps.
Works fine for me. Followed the directions to the T and now I can watch NBA league pass for free.
I have jailbroken perfectly to 3.1 however when i go to add http://cydia.hackulo.us it will not accept the url???? why it worked fine on my other however i used blackra1n for that one this one i used redsn0w as i had to update the baseband to maintain vodafone reception it is on 3.1 custom ispw firmware please let me know

Suck as “no header found” . Then all the sources disapear , cydia list went empty.

Hey Guys, you need not be worried about what is going on, just add the URL, then search for the package named “Appsync for OS 3.1″ or “Appsync for OS 3.0″, install it and then download and install a free application (like a free game) from itune’s website, then you would be able to install all applications available for you phone, it just works,
It tooke me a few weeks to figure out that I was not able to successfully jailbreak and install installous is because I had Home Network Defender blocking it. Once I disabled it, all systems were go.

To correct the ‘ Download failed. Unable to save file.’ do the following:
Change the permissions on the /private/var/mobile/Library/Downloads to 0777.

For all the people this didn’t work for; Once you download the app, go to the center tab, marked “Downloads”. From there, click on the app you want to get, and touch “install”. Once it finishes, it should show up on your springboard.

Yo all. I had the same problem as most others on here. I done everything in the tutorial but nothing was showing up on my springboard. I realised i needed to install “AppSync” and once i had that installed it worked perfectly. Appsync you get through Cydia. Just do a search (in cydia) for it. I have an iphone 3G 3.1.3.
i installed that source and when i did it said complete then it doesnt show up in my packages its sooo annoying then its negative in my sources… im so frusterated!
I just jailbroke my friends 2g 16 Gig Itouch.. I used blackra1n and have cydia all installed and everything.
HOWEVER! When i follow these steps i get stuck after i type in the http://Cydia.hackulo.us It loads saying “Verifying URL” for a little while and eventually gives me a error msg saying, “DID NOT FIND REPOSITORY”

I had a problem where i typed in the http://cydia.hackulo.us and couldnt get past this step because of some repository problem followed by a paragraph about how it is illegal or somthing…
If you get this problem, then leave the “MANAGE” part of cydia and enter the “CHANGES” part. Upgrade or update the changes then try the http://cydia.hackulo.us step again. It worked for me and for another guy halfway through this blog named Phillip.

LOL! omfg! my ipod is stuck on the cydia screen. :L it froze, it wont even reboot, shutoff, or the homebutton doesnt work. wtf. i tried to download installous, it didnt work… so i did a theme thingy, and after it was like 1/4 way done, i pressed the home button cuz it was taking to long so… plz help :L my ipod is literally frozen.
Go onto iTunes. Plug your iPod in, when it shows up you just click restore it will delete all the music and movies and apps on your iPod but they willl still be on your computer. It should work then mine did the same thing
hold off and home button in, restore the iphone in itunes to factory and then syncronize it too ur old one.. happend to me too!

After this message, when i go to system am able to find hackulo.us, but when i try to install “installous” i don't get the option to confirm, so i get stuck there. In effect am not able to install it. Please what should i do.

i got installous. i find an app i want. i press download and go to a website. i type the verification thing then i press download. after it downloads, i click it and press install. it says installl complete and has a checkmark on it. yet when i leave installous and check every page, the app isnt there. when i go back to installous it says i have to install it again. i install it again but the same problem happens AGAIN. can someone help me please?
take a look at the requirements from the app. if your idevice doesnt fulfill the requirements its not shown on your springboard

I think you misread his question. He said “after i download an app and try to install it”. Obviously he’s not that stupid. Sometimes, when you install an app they don’t always show up on your screen. Happened to me a couple of times. My suggestion is to download from another person if the first didn’t work. That works for me sometimes

I have a solution for everyone with the unexpected content issue. solution1: On installous go to setings and turn install automatically to on. Next go to downloads and make sure everything is deleted in it because it is a tmp folder or temporary and may not work well with loads of unneeded files. Now you can download. solution2: make sure these files on cydia are installed 1. Cydia Installer (Source: http://apt.saurik.com)
2. Erica Utilities (Source: http://apt.modmyi.com)
3. UUID Generator
4. Darwin CC Tools
5. unzip
6. gawk
7. Installous (Source: http://cydia.hackulo.us)
solution3: make sure your version of installous is 3.1.11
last solution: This is for people with ssh 1. Find your application/game and download the .ipa file
2. Rename the .ipa file to xxx.zip(xxx is the name of the application/game)
3. Open the .zip file and extract it
4. You will see a xxx.app folder(xxx is the name of the application/game)
5. Transfer the xxx.app folder to your iphone via SSH to the /Applications folder
6. chmod 775 this xxx.app folder
7. Respring/Reboot and you are done!

Just appscene/filedude's way of getting you to go premium. Try using mediafire for one application. If you dont want it installed thats fine just keep it downloaded. You can download the application you want now then clear youre downloaded section in installous.

connect your ipod to itune n then cancel sync. in itunes you click to file n click on 'transfer purchases' so apps installed in your ipod will not delete next time your sync.

if you have the older OS…like 3.0.1 it might be the issue. I had a similar problem on my 3g running 3.0.1 and i upgraded to iOS4.0, jailbroke it and unlocked and it seems to work fine now. I am not a tech-wiz on iphones but this worked for me. If anyone out there is more knowledgeable, correct me if i am wrong.

You need to run iRecovery if you get an install error with iTunes. Google iRecovery and it will show you the steps needed.

It back up the phone but says cannot snyc because of unknown error (-50). the apps wiped out leaving the name of the apps and also the ipod app on the phone keeps crashing. itunes would not recognise my phone now.
