Hackulous Tutorial: How to get Free iPhone Apps

If you want to get free apps for the iPhone or iPod Touch, you must first have your iPhone or iPod Touch jailbroken. After that, simply get on Cydia and add the Hackulous repository;

Cydia -> Manage -> Sources -> Edit -> Add

Enter the link “http://cydia.hackulo.us” like the picture below.

After adding the source for the Hackulous repository to cydia, the next step is to download the Installous app for the iPhone or iPod Touch. The Installous app will be your source for apps.

Cydia -> manage -> Packages

From there whether you want to perform a search function or just scroll down and find it, you will have to install the Installous app. The Installous app will be like an alternative to the iPhone app store.

Once the Installous app is on your springboard, you can use it to find the many apps that are available for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The app will often redirect you to hosting sites via the browser but from there just simply select a mirror and you should be able to enjoy the apps free. Have a great day and don’t hesitate to ask questions!

Have an iPhone 3GS, had no issues adding the url. Do select to "add anyway" if you wish to ignore the warning. Then simply click on the source, browse, and as it says, choose a link to download it at. Especially the ones that say "hacked". Done.

I've installed blackra1n, cydia and installous it works great. But when i turn my ipod off and then put it on i get the signal that i must connect with Itunes when i do that itunes say you must recover when i do that it dón't work. It works defnitivily when i reboot it with blackra1n. I've try to delete blackra1n but the problem remains.

When I tried to install Installous. My IPOD Touch shows "Note: The requested modifications cannot be applied due to required dependencies or conflicts that cannot be automatically found or fixed." Then it cannot download the app. My IPOD firmware is 1_2.2.1_5H11a.

You need to run iRecovery if you get an install error with iTunes. Google iRecovery and it will show you the steps needed.

if you have the older OS...like 3.0.1 it might be the issue. I had a similar problem on my 3g running 3.0.1 and i upgraded to iOS4.0, jailbroke it and unlocked and it seems to work fine now. I am not a tech-wiz on iphones but this worked for me. If anyone out there is more knowledgeable, correct me if i am wrong.

download 3.1.2 firmware

restore the 3.1.2 (hold shift for windows, and alt for mac)

uncheck the sync applications box when you sync your ipod

connect your ipod to itune n then cancel sync. in itunes you click to file n click on 'transfer purchases' so apps installed in your ipod will not delete next time your sync.

I have a solution for everyone with the unexpected content issue. solution1: On installous go to setings and turn install automatically to on. Next go to downloads and make sure everything is deleted in it because it is a tmp folder or temporary and may not work well with loads of unneeded files. Now you can download. solution2: make sure these files on cydia are installed 1. Cydia Installer (Source: http://apt.saurik.com)
2. Erica Utilities (Source: http://apt.modmyi.com)
3. UUID Generator
4. Darwin CC Tools
5. unzip
6. gawk
7. Installous (Source: http://cydia.hackulo.us)
solution3: make sure your version of installous is 3.1.11
last solution: This is for people with ssh 1. Find your application/game and download the .ipa file
2. Rename the .ipa file to xxx.zip(xxx is the name of the application/game)
3. Open the .zip file and extract it
4. You will see a xxx.app folder(xxx is the name of the application/game)
5. Transfer the xxx.app folder to your iphone via SSH to the /Applications folder
6. chmod 775 this xxx.app folder
7. Respring/Reboot and you are done!

I went for solution 2 and it worked! (got gta!!) but after a while the unexpected content message came up again. I downloaded all the packages that u said to download. I even tried to reinstall installous and it still didn't work. Solution 2 only fixed my problem temporarily. What can I do? Pease help

Just appscene/filedude's way of getting you to go premium. Try using mediafire for one application. If you dont want it installed thats fine just keep it downloaded. You can download the application you want now then clear youre downloaded section in installous.

You should be sure that the download is complete. There can't be any interruption like going to your home screen.

Everything works fine until the app is downloading. It says "unexpected content" and deletes the app out of the loading list, and I've tried it with different apps and the same thing keeps happening.

I was wonder; is there any need to keep the downloaded .ipa's in the 'download' section? or is it just taking up space somewhere on the iPhone?

also when i download winterboard it tells me to reboot then it goes blank then says connect to itunes and nothing happens???

can someone help me im trying to get the hakulo source but it gives me some error messages while its downloading and after its done i go into my sources and its not there....On the error messages it says something like ..some index files failed to download, they have been ignored or old ones used instead

I have already ran the spirit jb thru my i phone. and then affter 3 days my intro apps from itunes app. don't open anymore. how can i prevent this from happening? is there an app from cydia that could fix this bug?

Following the instructions given, i tried adding "cydia.hackulo.us", but in the process, i had some error messages, and it finally told me, "some index files failed to download, they have been ignored or old ones used instead". After this message, when i go to system am able to find hackulo.us, but when i try to install "installous" i don't get the option to confirm, so i get stuck there. In effect am not able to install it. Please what should i do.

LOL! omfg! my ipod is stuck on the cydia screen. :L it froze, it wont even reboot, shutoff, or the homebutton doesnt work. wtf. i tried to download installous, it didnt work... so i did a theme thingy, and after it was like 1/4 way done, i pressed the home button cuz it was taking to long so... plz help :L my ipod is literally frozen.

hold down the home top button for 10 secs, then the top button and the home button for 10 secs and then let go of the home button and keep holding the top button for 10 secs. This the soft-restart that apple intergrated into the ipod and iphone to counter freezes that can sometimes be experienced. once restarted go into itunes and restore it.

hold off and home button in, restore the iphone in itunes to factory and then syncronize it too ur old one.. happend to me too!

Go onto iTunes. Plug your iPod in, when it shows up you just click restore it will delete all the music and movies and apps on your iPod but they willl still be on your computer. It should work then mine did the same thing

i've a question. umm i have already jailbreak my ipod and installed both cydia and installous. but sumtimes its very hard 2 download sum huge apps with installous ipod. the download goes error if i leave the ipod and it goes into standby mode. is it posible 2 download the app with a pc first then install it into my ipod?
