The 3rd Generation iPhone 3GS
The third generation iPhone is due out very soon, but should you upgrade from the iPhone 3G to the iPhone 3GS? We don’t think so. The Apple iPhone 3G has been a huge success, it drew long lines when it was released around the world and has yet to be defeated by the competition. So how can Apple possibly top the juggernaut that is the iPhone 3G? That’s a hard task which Apple isn’t going to do with their next third generation iPhone, from the rumors it appears they’re merely improving upon it. The upgrades of the “iPhone 3.0″ vs. the iPhone 3G are subtle but important (if the rumors regarding the iPhone 3.0 are true).

iPhone 3G vs iPhone 3rd Generation
So what do we think the 3rd generation iPhone will have? Well many sources claim that the next generation iPhone will come with a 600 Mhz CPU, 256Mb of Ram, an improved 3.2 MP camera with autofocus, a digital compass, an FM tuner and up to 32GB of flash storage. Some of these new features are very plausible while others like the FM tuner seem out of the ordinary for Apple. Let’s say all these rumored features were in fact true, is it worth ditching your one year old or less iPhone 3G? Unless you’re made of money we don’t recommend getting in line for it. If you’re looking to replace your first generation “iPhone 2G” or you’re planning on making the switch to the iPhone side from another mobile phone then holding out for the iPhone 3.0 makes sense. And if the rumors regarding AT&T reducing the cheapest iPhone plan are true you may even save a few bucks. If you already own the iPhone 3G like me then don’t worry, the iPhone 3.0 software will work with our soon to be outdated iPhone 3G’s so we can finally get MMS and copy & paste too!
