The new fourth Generation iPod nano is here and it’s quite the looker. With it’s sharp new looks and slim and sleek new size. And is it slim indeed! The iPod nanos have always had a slim tall design until the third generation model which changed things up a bit and went with a shorter and chubbier design. It gained not only width but screen size as well, which was the best feature of the third gen iPod nano.
The new fourth generation iPod nano was released on September 9th, 2008 at Apple’s “Let’s Rock” event in San Francisco, California along with the new second gen iPod touch and iTunes 8. This time around Apple decided to go back to the slimmer taller design style which was loved and hated by many. I personally liked both the fat and skinny look, the new 4th gen nano is by far by my favorite design yet with its curved aluminum body. Apple managed to make the new iPod nano slimmer and lighter than the previous nanos but were still able to keep the same screen size of the third gen nano. They managed to do this by putting the screen in a vertical layout as opposed to a horizontal one like the third gen nano had. Oh but it gets even better, turn the iPod nano on its side and the screen goes into wide view just like the iPhone and iPod touch thanks to the built-in accelerometer. Oh but it gets even better, give the new iPod nano a little shake and it shuffles your songs. The new iPod nano also features a much improved user interface making song selections quick and easy.
The screen is different than the previous nano’s as well featuring a curved real glass screen, which looks cool but has an annoying glare when using the device outdoors. Head phone volume seems to be much improved from other iPods and even the new iPhone. All in all this is a great little music player and sure to be the iPod to beat for quite some time.
