With the success of the iPhone around the world it seems like one country may not fully embrace the American mobile phone and 3G device. iPhone owners in Japan camped out for days just like those around the world, but why are some still hesitant about the popular new phone? Japan is a leader in cell phone development and the Japanese people are proud of how high-tech their phones are over most in the West. Many cell phones in Japan have features and functions that the iPhone doesn’t include, which is a major factor of the iPhones success as a whole in Japan.
Different cell phone function icons, contact information swapping via infrared, TV broadcast, camcorders and voice recognition are all features that are either vastly different or non-existent on the new iPhone. All features the Japanese already have on their cell phones. The new look and design of the iPhone is what drew many users to the new iPhone in Japan but it’s major differences to local Japanese phones may be its undoing in the most high-tech country in the world.
