The new rideshare app for the iPhone promises to cut carbon dioxide emissions by over 70 Million Tons by the year 2020. The company behind this app (named Avego) is Mapflow and it hopes to have a customer base of around 20 million by the year 2020. The app will use the built in GPS functionality of the iPhone to track the routes of the user and match that up to the routes of other people. It will then provide recommendations based on the most commonly taken trips. If it meets its target, Avego should reduce the total number of car emissions equivilent to about 146 billion less miles driven on California roads per year!
